"There'll be no locks or bolts between us Mary-Kate, except those in your mercenary little heart!"

To all my readers; have a wonderful St Patrick's Day!

  1. The Quiet Man is one of my most loved films! It is the only film I queued for hours to see in Dublin nearly sixty years ago. Those were the days!
Hope you had a lovely happy St. Patrick's Day.

    1. Hello EFpastor emeritus,

I had a lovely St Patrick's night out in Kilburn. In which cinema did you see The Quiet Man?

  2. Love, love, LOVE this movie always. ("Impetuous. Homeric!" LOL)

We'll be watching it tonight after dinner!

  3. The trailer leaves out the most memorable line in the movie when the awestruck Michaeleen O'Flynn blurts out the immortal line, "Impetuous!" ;-o)

  4. OH! We watch THE QUIET MAN every St Patrick's Day! It's one of our favorite movies; we can quote most of the dialogue and sing all the songs. LOL We just finished watching it and I was online to check tomorrow's weather forecast for early Mass and saw your blog. Best wishes to you for a blessed St Patrick's Day (and St Joseph's Day on Monday) from 2 Irish-Americans.

  5. Did you know that the scene when Michaeleen carries the cradle into the bedroom, sees the broken bed and says, "Impetuous! Homeric!" was censored in some States back in the 50's? How things have changed!
Also, we've wondered about the scene where Sean scoops up some Holy Water for Mary-Kate to bless herself when leaving Mass and Michaeleen chastises them for "playing patty-fingers in the Holy Water". Neither my husband nor I have ever seen that in real life here in the US and we're in our 50's. Is (was?) that a real custom in Ireland? I keep telling him he should do it for me since we've had the banns read - about 30 years ago! LOL
Thanks for the post about a wonderful old movie that is relatively unknown and unappreciated!
    Blessings, Marie and George

    1. Dear Marie and George,

Thank you very much for your comment. I don't think that it is especially a custom in Ireland for a couple to share holy water when leaving Mass.

You may have come across the humourous 'Catholic chat up lines'; one of which is planted in my memory; "did you feel what I felt when our hands met in the Holy Water font?"

Hope you both had a lovely St Patrick's Day.

      Mary

  6. Mary,
In the Metropole, in O@Connell St at least I think that was the name. Now long gone.
