CAN CHRISTIAN TRUMP-HATERS THROW THE FIRST STONE?

 

I wasn’t angered by President Trump‘s blasphemous AI picture of himself as Jesus and it didn’t occasion one of my sneer fests to which a bitter person like me is regrettably prone. Rather, I felt afraid for him, yes true terror that his soul might be in peril.

I also, however, felt a tingle down my spine for those who demonstrated tremendous self-righteous hate for the President and may be using the blasphemous image as a means to convert people to the anti-Trump side.

May I ask if they can really throw the first stone and excoriate the president as a blasphemer? I believe they may assert the picture of Trump-as-Jesus as blasphemous, and reject the spin that is was a joke. But to call Trump and out and out blasphemer might be hypocritical, are they sure they are not blasphemers?

Do they themselves never take the Lord‘s Name in vain, even if they are baptized Christians? 

Do they never watch sitcoms, movies, reels, and/or stream series where blasphemy stings the air? Perhaps they have subscriptions to certain media platforms written by and for blasphemers?

Do they object to blasphemy when it is mouthed by a friend or a boss or a colleague they hope to impress?

Perhaps even more pertinently, if they are decrying the President’s blasphemy on the basis that they believe Jesus is the Lord and Savior, are they offering prayers of reparation to the Lord for the sins of blasphemy, including their own? 

Never was there a better time to revisit the devotion that was given with the express aim of making reparation and inspiring people never to blaspheme.

In France of the 1800s, Our Lord appeared to a feisty French nun and gave her the means by which we may repair the damage done to His Holy Face when sinners insult Him to His Face.

I believe the Lord directs us towards certain devotions by means of giving us an ease and joy when we recite them. This is true for me when I offer devotions to the Holy Face, the Chaplet trips off my lips. It’s like swimming in a placid lake. Some other devotions great and holy though they are, make me feel I’m lost at sea in choppy waters.

I consider that someone like me who is much more easily distractable than the average person has been given a special grace to offer the Golden Arrow. 

I have a special fondness for Sister Mary of Saint Peter, who was as blunt as she was brave. Our Lord revealed to her that a terrific and terrifying storm that ravaged France had been His vengeance for blasphemy. 

Tough to hear, but even people who love the Holy Face wince when they uncover the vision given sister Mary of Saint Peter, that Satan himself herds the flock of blasphemers.

I don’t advise confronting someone who routinely blasphemes with this revelation and tell them that potentially Satan herds then like a sadistic sheepdog corrals goats. 

But I think Father Lawrence Carney’s book is the best to bring them to devotion to the Holy Face, that they may stop insulting Him in this life and have eternity with Him in the next.
