MAY THE LORD BLESS THEE AND KEEP THEE
“May the Lord bless thee and keep thee; May He make His Face shine upon thee and be merciful to thee; may He
turn His Countenance toward thee and give thee His Peace!” (Num. 6:22-27)
This is the Benediction of St Francis of Assisi Through the Holy Face, and I pray it for all my readers. Below is a photo of me taken last Summer when I thought it a good idea to read Gaeta and Tornielli's seminal book Padre Pio L'Ultimo Sospetto while sitting near a statue of St Francis. The book is an extraordinary defense of the miraculous nature of Pio's stigmata, and makes a most convincing case that the wounds of Christ's crucifixion visited on Pio could not be explained by medical science. While the book concerns Pio, it unwittingly is a defense of St Francis, who also had the stigmata and some of the same arguments the authors put forth to defend Pio could also be applied to Francis's bearing of the wounds of Christ.
