HOLY MASS WILL BE OFFERED FOR...

...Catherine Collins on her birthday, March 6th by a very holy prelate. Please, of your love, offer your prayers in union with this Holy Mass. Catherine has made a wonderful recovery from covid in recent months.

A separate Holy Mass will also be offered for the intentions of me and my significant other at 7 a.m. Los Angeles time or 3 p.m. UK/Ireland time.

  1. Sue, My son and I served the Divine Liturgy this March 6 on the All Souls Saturday. I remembered Catherine Collins in the liturgy.

I told my daughter Catherine about Catherine and she said Catherine is in the "Cha" Club, and exclusive club made up only of Catherines, such as Ven. Catherine McAuley, St. Catherine of Alexandria, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Catherine of Genoa, St. Catherine of Bologna, etc. My daughter had a speech impediment when she was little and pronounced her name as "Cha."

All these prayers in the mystical body of Christ is a great thing, Mary! It makes me thing of Pius XII great encyclical Mystici Corporis Christi. I will continue to remember you and yours in my prayers.

Mary, you make it fun to pray for others, you let us see the joy. Thank you.

    1. Dear James Ignatius,

You are extraordinarily generous. Thank you for your prayers for Catherine, who just finished her birthday celebrations. She will be delighted to read this comment. And thank you to your "Cha" for her prayers. The Cha Club has many luminaries in Heaven and august souls on earth.

I take it that this All Souls' Saturday is one of the 5 All Souls' Days of the Byzantine Liturgy. This is the Great Lent, so it is the 3rd All Souls' Saturday. And as Subdeacon, you wear red, as opposed to the Russians who wear black.

Instead of offering the Litany to St Joseph, you may offer an Akathist to St Joseph. As you know an Akathist offered in lieu of the litany is sited in the Vatican decree.

I know one extremely Holy priest, Fr Adrian, who is Romanian and is "bi-ritual". He offers the Byzantine and Tridentine Rites. He blessed my Padre Pio manuscript. He had a profound encounter with Padre Pio as a teenager.

Thank you also for your kindness to me, I'm chuffed to hear I help make prayer fun.

God bless you, Cha, and all your family

    2. Yes, we wore red yesterday, and a purple gold today. Every All Souls Saturday we have a Panakhyda prayer service, which is the Byzantine liturgical prayers for the departed. Our Church uses the Gregorian Calendar, so next Saturday is the 4th All Souls Day Liturgy.

You are blessed to know a bi-ritual priest. In fact, our priest is bi-ritual, and he will occasionally do the 1962 missal at his parish. I make it a point to attend the yearly All Souls Day mass he does in the Tridentine form. Beautiful mass with black vestments. Yes, I do prefer the 1962 over the Novus Ordo. The old mass is much more similar to the Byzantine liturgy in praxis and shape.

I enjoy serving liturgy as I am before God the most high and glorious and beautiful. I was an altar boy from 1976 after my first communion through 1987 and a lector from 1987 to 1995 in the Roman Catholic Church. I began the process of transitioning to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in 2012. As a Subdeacon I do both roles, chanting the epistle and serving the priest.

Since I enjoy praying the psalter, I often use the Baronius 1960 Roman Breviary, as our Horologion's font is TOO small and strains my eyes, even with bifocals. When I use the Horologion, I use the Melkite one, as they have a good font.

And, when the Padre Pio manuscript goes to publication, let me know as I intend to buy a copy!
