HOW THE HOLY NAME OF JESUS MAY BE YOUR SURE PROTECTION IN THE TIME OF CORONA

At this time of writing I have not been infected with the corona virus, but Catherine Collins, a very close friend of mine is extremely ill and this has jolted me out of my complacency. I prayed to the Holy Spirit to edify me as to ways you and I may call on the Holy Name for our protection. The accounts of miraculous protection and miraculous cures given the Saints from plagues and serious disease after they called on the Holy Name of Jesus has convinced me of the great efficacy of invoking Our Lord's Most Holy Name for our immunity from this feverish illness and for our healing. As I write this post, I am praying in as solemn and reverent a way as a weak soul like me can muster, "Jesus, Jesus": our constant remedy is to pray Our Savior's Name.

All honor and credit to the Holy Spirit for inspiring me with the following: If you have to wear a mask every time you go out of the house, may I suggest you take a pen and write "Jesus" on it? I have had to wear a mask indoors when visitors have come. I did some experimenting with my felt-tipped pen when I wrote in smudgy letters, "JESUS" on both sides of my mask.  As you may see in the two photos above and below (which are of the same mask) the ink was not seen on the reverse side and this was just an inexpensive, standard mask bought over-the-counter. You may write "Jesus" on the front of your mask or behind, and have two masks; one for occasions when you wish to keep the Holy Name invisible but nonetheless present, and another mask when you wish for the name "JESUS" to be seen visible on your mask.

If your cloth mask has a white tag, you may also inscribe, "JESUS" on it. The Holy Name on your mask will purify the air coming in and out of your airways and preserve your lungs from the wreckage of the virus.  If you do this, why not share your photos and proclaim the power of Our Lord's Name? I have never started a movement and I don't think I have what it takes to do it now, but why not use hashtags such as #HolyNameProtection #JesusMask etc. Yes, I am planting ideas in your head, but may these ideas be the way you and your loved ones avail of the protection and healing of the Holy Name.

You may also take a pen and write, "JESUS" on the tags of your clothes, and the clothes of your loved ones and children. This is your Antidote.  The self-isolation and quarantine has left many in a state of depression, anxiety and hopelessness, may I proffer that if we offer the Name of Jesus it will lift our drooping spirits? Perhaps this sounds so simple to our secular senses as to be speculation  - and if so we need urgently challenge our lack of trust in the Holy Name - by offering the Holy Name as the Antidepressant and feeling It buoy our spirits. In our times, the Holy Name has not been found tried and lacking, rather it has been found untried, yet for those who invoke It, it is still miraculous.

The Holy Name was miraculous for the millions of people across Portugal in the year 1432 when a most malign malady (not unlike corona) led to the death of many. A toxic plague rampaged which turned the rectangular country of Portugal into one charnel house. That was until saintly Bishop Dias started and spurred on a campaign for the people to call on the Holy Name. They made cards of the Holy Name and kept them on their persons. The invocation of the Holy Name and the use of simple pieces of paper with the Holy Name scribbled on them was the panacea which cured multitudes, and against all odds protected the health of those who were most likely to fall into sickness. Without recourse to medicine, the plague ended all because the people invoked Our Lord's Name.

True, we are removed from Portugal 1432 by hundreds of years, but their Remedy is still our Remedy. Perhaps you and I may do as Bishop Dias did, and make little cards of the Holy Name and keep them on our person? If you are a mother or father with young children, why not invite your children to make holy cards with the Holy Name of "JESUS", that way the very process of making these cards is healing and a way of protecting the little ones.

Back even further in our history, during the 500s, the great St Gregory of Tours discovered the dynamism of the Holy Name. Gregory's father was so sick that he was on the point of death. Gregory's Guardian Angel appeared to him and instructed him to write the Holy Name of Jesus on a card and place the card bearing the Holy Name under his father's pillow. Gregory eagerly signed "Jesus" on a sheet that went under his father's resting head. To be sure, the Guardian Angel had not told Gregory that a cure would be forthcoming, but to their amazement, Gregory's father recovered. Again, might we do as Gregory did and place a card bearing the Most Holy Name of Jesus under the resting heads of those who are sick and those who are vulnerable?  In our times, we may take the pillow in hand, pull out the label and write "JESUS" on it, and thus embellish the soft cushion with Our Savior's Name.

From her sickbed, my friend Catherine penned "JESUS"  on her hand:

When she had a moment of strength, she made this card which she has since placed under her pillow:

I usually assist at the Traditional Latin Mass and the Holy Name is compulsorily prayed 27 times in one Mass, perhaps for those of us who may not go to Mass, we may offer the Holy Name 27 times at the time we would have gone to Mass?  In these times, we may offer the Holy Name at the same time it would be offered were we to assist at Mass, but in these most turbulent days we offer it for the intentions of those who are sick and those who are weak and susceptible.

Though I am not one to start a campaign or movement, you might be. Please consider spreading the word of the Word Incarnate, Whose Holy Name is our immediate Remedy and Antidote. Instead of spreading the virus, let's spread the Holy Name. If you follow any or all of these ideas, from writing "JESUS" on your mask, on your clothes or on your pillows, perhaps consider sharing photos of the Holy Name writ on your clothing. Maybe share photos of the Holy Name cards you or your children have made bearing the Holy Name. If we honor the witness of our Saints as to the miracles of healing wrought by the Holy Name we, too, may save lives.

Of your love, please keep Catherine in your prayers.  May you be richly rewarded for your prayers.

  2. May, my prayers for Catherine! It is a good suggestion regarding the Holy Name of Jesus and thank you for sharing the suggestion regarding the face mask. I shall go do it.

I will ask my daughter Catherine to pray for her, she is named after venerable Catherine McAuley..When Cath was little, I told her there was a "Catherine club" in heaven of all the Catherine's. So, letus ask Catherine of Alexandria, Siena, Bologna, and Siena to help Catherine Collins out.

    1. Well done for inscribing, JESUS on your mask, James. And thank you so much for asking your Catherine to pray for my Catherine. Yes, so many Saints called Catherine. There is also Catherine of Genoa. As you so sagely suggest, let us ask all of them to intercede. May you be rewarded.
