"A LABOR OF LOVE"
My great friend, Melissa Presser has left this lovely review:
"Mary O'Regan's Padre Pio and You is a masterpiece! It is not just a book, it is an experience.
Every night I read chapter after chapter, completely taken in by this saint and feeling like I was a part of something greater. Mary goes through Pio's life with great precision, not from a solely historical or spiritual perspective, but also a very personal one.
Late at night I often found myself stopping at a page to wait awhile, lamenting over Pio's great sufferings or asking for His intercession. The author makes him so personally accessible in this book, to the point where several chapters in I felt I had a new friend and great champion in my corner.
Many other nights I found myself in absolute tears, feeling drawn to what Pio experienced in his persecution by both friends and enemies. I was astounded at how accessible I felt he was to me, as I spent so many years afraid to even go near this saint.
The personal details of Pio revealed in this book coupled with the many miracles he became associated with gave me a newfound hope to ask for his guidance and intercession. The people he helped were everyday people like you and I who went to Pio often times in complete dire straits, as often he was their only hope.
The only regret I have is that I finished the book too soon. I miss my nights holding and reading the book and drifting off to sleep with the last scene that I had read. I felt consoled by His love for Christ and humanity, and his love and devotion to the people of San Giovanni.
This book was clearly a labor of love for Mary which shone through every page. It's as if she was his very own great defender, telling the whole story with every detail as the consummate journalist she is. Mary's talent for bringing Pio to life will certainly bring many souls to Christ. Ultimately, this was Pio's mission as well.
If you are a fallen away Catholic, a devout Catholic or not Catholic at all, this book is for each one of you. Mary takes care to speak to every audience and report on what are simply the facts. This makes it difficult to argue with her as she impeccably presents Pio's case.
May God reward Mary for her tenacity, love and devotion to Padre Pio and making him accessible to the rest of us.
Order more than one copy, you're going to need them!"
