PRISONERS WHO BECAME SAINTS: THOMAS MORE AND PADRE PIO
My friend Dr. Gavin Ashenden and I had a most animated discussion on the circumstances that led to Thomas More being imprisoned in the Tower of London at the order of King Henry VIII, and how this compares to Padre Pio being imprisoned in his friary at the order of Pope Pius XI.
We don't shy away from analyzing the motives and mayhem caused by Thomas More's enemies in Tudor England, and we don't flinch for a second at scrutinizing the enemies in miters and cassocks who had Pio jailed in his own friary. We spill tea so hot it was like it was boiled in a pressure cooker.
