MALACHI MARTIN, RIP

On this day in 1999, Feast of St Pantaleon, Father Malachi Martin left this life and went to God. Fr Martin was born in County Kerry, Ireland to an Irish mother and a gynecologist father who hailed from England so it is someway fitting he died on the feast of the patron saint of physicians, Pantaleon being patron of his father's profession. Father Martin died 4 days after his 78th birthday.

I have been asked to discern if I might write a biography of Fr Martin to come after my book, Padre Pio and You, and I am seeing if it is possible to do the necessary research.  Fr Martin was a prolific writer whose works were published by some of the most distinguished publishing houses. Presently a Jewish friend of mine is asking contacts of his in the publishing world if they knew Fr Martin and if this is the case, then I'll interview them as to their time editing the books of this most intrepid Jesuit.

For now, let us lift Fr Martin up in prayer and ask his prayers in return.

Prayer for a Deceased Priest

O God, Thou didst raise Thy servant, Malachi, to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ, according to the Order of Melchisedech, giving him the sublime power to offer the Eternal Sacrifice, to bring the Body and Blood of Thy Son Jesus Christ down upon the altar, and to absolve the sins of men in Thine own holy Name. We beseech Thee to read his faithfulness and to forget his faults, admitting him speedily into Thy holy presence these to enjoy forever the recompense of his labors. This we ask through Jesus Christ Thy Son Our Lord. Amen.
