TUESDAY SUPPLICATION FOR THE HOLY SOULS IN PURGATORY: FILL THEM WITH THE JOY OF YOUR HOLY FACE

 Jesus, You permitted Your Holy Face, on which the angels desire to look, to be blindfolded, spat upon and struck with blows. Through this Your incomprehensible patience I humbly beg You, have mercy on the holy souls in Purgatory, especially those for whom I wish to pray. Admit them into the brightness of Your light and fill them with the joy of Your countenance.  

Our Father...Hail Mary.

The painting below is Teresa of Avila Interceding for Souls in Purgatory. This masterpiece came from Peter Paul Ruben's workshop. When I first saw it, it called to mind Sister Mary of St Peter who was a Carmelite like Teresa of Avila. Indeed, Sister Mary and Teresa of Avila looked alike, had that similar hardy bearing and could be mistaken for each other, but Our Lord gave Sister Mary the devotion to His Holy Face, and in the Tuesday supplication for the holy souls we pray to Our Lord that He free souls from Purgatory so they may have the joy of gazing on His Face.
