OF ANGELS AND DEMONS: 2024 IN REVIEW

Of 44 entries, my most popular post of 2024 was the novena for healing to Archangel Raphael. I've heard that people take you at your own assessment and I truly believe in the grand intercessory powers of St Raphael, so much so I even wanted to call a son after him.

My gratitude to Raphael reaches back to when I was in my early 20s. At the time, I was in a scuffle for my health; I had two conditions simultaneously, one was a bleeding digestion that was treatable and another one that had doctors despairing and giving me the "incurable" verdict.

I constantly said the prayers to the angel of healing, Raphael, found in this treasure trove. The beloved angel always came to my aid and directed me to the right physicians, the healers, who treated me to the point that it was like I'd never been ill. My battle cry ever since has been, "Make Archangel Raphael known that many may enjoy healing!"

But I've not only had experiences with the good angels, and in my earliest years my first angelic encounters were with the fallen. When I was only 4, and visiting the home of an elderly lady, I was alone in a room filled with antiques, and suddenly I had demonic apparitions; the devil came as a fearsome beast and threatened me, while several of his satellites spun round me. He hit me on my upper chest which pushed me back while a smaller demon pushed me on the shoulder blades and I was thrust forward; like a human vending machine that was rocking on its legs. For those who might suggest I'm inventing the above account, the thought of being in the company of the devil for all eternity is enough to make me fear lying.

Last February, I turned 40 and it is only recently I've been able to make sense, actually think through the first physical demonic attack that was brought to bear on me in the late 80s, that acted as a type of panic-inducing catechesis because I had never heard elaborate descriptions of the devil, even the most die-hard Catholics that I know baulk at the idea of instructing children as to demonic aggression when they are 3-4 years of age. But now that I've completed a book on Padre Pio, my friends who know about satan slapping me, have asked if it was an attempt to scare me off writing about the first priest to get the stigmata. I'm even drafting a mystical memoir - as my present writing project - and it is short because the times the veil has dropped have been few. It was Fr Dan Reehill's nerve-shredding account of meeting the devil in the form of a devastatingly handsome man that gave me the courage to divulge the first satanic skirmish visited on me.

Certain attack is already being brought to bear on me in the wake of announcing that Padre Pio and You is available for pre-order. But for now, it is mainly in the realm of nasty comments on here that I don't publish. In my younger years, steeped in personal narcissism and lacking life experience, I thought any criticism was odious onslaught, but now I can sift through it, and discern that which is an attempt to undermine and that which may be constructive.

I am wary of not causing trouble between a husband and wife. Friends of mine who are in a mixed religion marriage; one is Christian and one is non-Christian cannot agree on whether by they will read Padre Pio and You, for the sake of peace the Christian is agreeing to avoid it, but has encouraged others (including non-Christians) to read it.

  3. About 20 years ago I had a most interesting experience. I was waiting in line to pay for some items I had purchased at the Gift Shop at the National Shrine of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, MA. I had purchased an image of the Divine Mercy which I planned to have framed for my parish church. I didn't notice the person right in front of me until he turned around and asked me if had devotion to the Angels. He was Fr. Joseph Whelan a late vocation priest who had great devotion to the Angels, especially Archangel Raphael. Fr. Whelan was at the Shrine to say Mass later and to conduct a healing service. I told Fr. Whelan that I believed in the Angels. He then sent his Assistant to go to his car to get a small bottle of Archangel Raphael healing oil. I still have it and use it from time to time. He gave me a prayer card to Archangel Raphael which I pray sometimes, especially now since I have Stage 4 Cancer. It has been 18 months since the diagnosis and so far I am managing quite well though I have to deal with some side affects from the treatment which are difficult. I know Archangel Raphael is praying for me along with Our Blessed Mother and some Saints that I am close to. All the Angels and Saints in Heaven want to help us. Let's ask them with the Litany to the Saints. We need all the prayers we can get!

  4. I pray the prayer card to St. Raphael every day and he has helped me to get through several surgeries in the past 3 years, including an open heart quadruple bypass surgery this past June that I am now recovered from. I fully encourage everyone to pray to St. Raphael for his intercession!

  5. I'm a "spiritual child" of Padre Pio and have read numerous books about him. Padre Pio often mentioned that when you are attacked, it is a sign that you are on the right track. In fact, he would get anxious when he wasn't being attacked, because he thought he was doing something wrong! So, when people attack your work, you can look at it as confirmation that you're doing the Lord's will, and that should make you feel encouraged, in spite of the negative comments! By the way, I got slapped by Padre Pio too! God bless you and keep up the good work!

  6. There will always be negative comments. Don’t worry about those people, they don’t get it. You publish what you feel God is leading you to publish. Your article was great! Looking forward to your book. God Bless!

  7. Archangel Raphael saved my life about 6 years ago and I would like everyone to know. He is so awesome and kind and caring. I knew deep, down how sick I was and prayed to God to allow him to come. All of a sudden there was a flash of light and he was there. He offered to take me with him but I said I can’t leave my son. He said very well then and sent a golden beam from his fingertip to where the sickness was. Suddenly my son came into the room and he already knew he had to take me to the hospital. Raphael said you will have more than one doctor (I had 4) you will make a full recovery and I will be watching over all of you. I had C. difficile and was in critical condition on arrival. The team of 3 doctors ran my lab several times and could not find the toxin. You can all see the archangel burned it out of me. They were mystified that they could not find it given how sick I was. I was supposed to be there 6 days and walked out of there on day 3 like nothing had happened. He will take care of everyone the way he saved me. He is so Wonderful and beautiful. The medicine of God ! I can’t thank him enough!
