THE INCORRUPTIBLE CORKONIAN: LITTLE NELLIE OF HOLY GOD

I just watched a lovely mini-documentary on Little Nellie of Holy God, to whom I am particularly devoted. In the posts that I’ve written about her, I omitted that 18 months after her death and burial, Nellie was dug up and her body was found to be perfectly preserved. Her dark gold locks of hair had grown a little as had her finger nails. She looked like she was sleeping. Nellie had originally been buried in St. Joseph’s cemetery, several miles from The Good Shepherd convent where she breathed her last. But there were many, many pilgrims coming to her grave and there was an atmosphere of celebration as people rejoiced in having prayers answered through Little Nellie's intercession. This constituted something of a disturbance in a place where the ordinary people of Cork, "Corkonians" as they are called, were burying their loved ones, shedding tears and while others were tending graves.

It was decided that Little Nellie ought to be moved and buried in the cemetery of the Good Shepherd Sisters. Her grave was furnished with a fine statue of the Infant of Prague.  It was 1909 when Little Nellie was discovered to be "incorrupt", absolutely no signs of decay or bodily rot was evident. The mini-documentary on her life that I've shared invites people to pray for her beatification. I wonder if it is at all possible for some investigation to be done as to whether Little Nellie has remained perfectly preserved and thus could join the ranks of saints whose bodies have remained just as they were when they were about to die.
